Song Description

I think Lift Me is my most important and complex song work yet. Lyrically it gets a little deeper than some of my other songs. It speaks of inward questioning and negative feelings, yet carries hope and winds its way to happiness. Musically, it has some surprises in its structure. And it seamlessly crosses two genres, transitioning from a folk country feel to indie-rock, showcasing my desire to be genre-fluid yet true to my roots.

The Story

The universal theme of Lift Me is one of redemption, specifically the power of one individual to save another with love. The narrative is one of a struggling soul offered a beacon of light to rise up out of the darkness. It’s an introspective love song and it offers a glimpse into the exploratory process that keeps a relationship solid.  I wrote this song for my life partner, Sam, to show appreciation for the kindness, patience, and guidance he has consistently offered me. I hope the genre switch at the end of the song creates the same sense of elevation and elation in listeners that I get from my relationship with Sam.

The History

I wrote this song for Sam because he lets me be me. He lets me find my way through the world without judging my steps along the way, and I’m really grateful that he supports me through my mistakes as he knows I’m growing with each step. He just keeps offering love day after day, year after year, and that unconditional love has lifted me through dark and questioning times.

The Goal of Gathering Together

I would really love for you to come be a part of this video because the song not only celebrates the love Sam gives me. The song really celebrates anyone and everyone out there who offers unconditional love so that we can all be lifted into our best selves. In coming aboard this music video adventure, you can send some love out into the world, with the hope that maybe it will lift someone up. I really would like to send the message that we, individually and collectively, can lift the world with the love in our eyes. I want that to be the defining message of the video and envision this video as the beginning of a homegrown, Summit County civic movement where we collectively lift the world, through kindness, caring, understanding, listening, and of course, the love in our eyes.
